You may be puzzled when your pooch suddenly develops a penchant for his paws. He chews and licks them constantly, but you can’t find any sores or splinters that would explain his behavior.
Surprisingly, the answer to your mutt’s mysterious munching may be allergies. Regardless of whether they are caused by fleas, food, or environmental factors such as pollen, canine allergies can manifest themselves in the skin, causing itching and discomfort.
After an examination by your regular veterinarian, a Veterinary Dermatologist can test your dog for allergies. Depending on the results, treatment may involve changing foods; administering antihistamines; or giving your dog a medicated bath.
